Display - Toppan, CDT to Develop Alternative Printing Processes for PLED
August 16, 2004
Toppan Printing announced its setting up of a pilot line to explore alternative printing methods, including roll processes, for displays based on CDT's (Cambridge Display Technology's) PLED (Polymer Light Emitting Diode) technology.

The one billion Yen (US$9 million; US$1 = 110.6 Yen) production line will use glass substrates initially, then move to more flexible substrates, such as plastics. The Toppan plan also aims to delve into fields related to the flexible display market segment. Toppan's ultimate target is to produce 12.1" VGA full-color active matrix samples in the course of two years

The collaboration between Toppan and CDT is an extension of a Toppan invested printing program in Opsys, founded by Toppan and later acquired by CDT in 2002.
